PassItForwardLC is a member of the ReUseIt Network and is open to all individuals alike. Businesses and/or groups are also welcome. PassItForwardLC is for those who wish to pass on items that are no longer of any use to them – instead of just placing it on your curb or sending it to an already overcrowded landfill. Post your item to the PassItForwardLC group to give away, or ask for something you may need (but please try to keep the asking limited).

PassItForwardLC is open to serve not only the fine people of Las Cruces, NM, but also those folks living in surrounding areas of Dona Ana County – this includes those people from rural NM with no community as well!

The ReUseIt Network is an on-line recycling forum that serves as a tool to make connections between community members who want to help each other, themselves, and their environment. In a disposable society where many items are discarded long before they have actually outlived their use.
Our goal is to find new uses for unwanted items that would otherwise be thrown into the trash. The primary benefit is that it reduces the amount of reusable items that end up in the trash with a secondary benefit of reducing the overall amount of items thrown into landfills. Reusing items not only cuts down on goods in landfills, but also helps reduce the strain on our natural resources by keeping useable items in circulation, reducing the need to manufacture additional goods.
The ReUseIt Network also provides an opportunity for those looking for an item to ask for it. Requests for items may jog the memory of someone who has an unused item stashed in the garage or basement waiting to be used. It is a great way to help get rid of those things which we may have forgotten, giving every member the chance to ReUseIt! All transactions must be free, legal, and family-friendly.
We all know people in our community who would love this idea. So, why not "Pass It Forward" and tell people how wonderful PassItForwardLC is!

To post or ask for an item: In the left-hand column of the PassItForwardLC group web site or Home Page , click on POST at the : (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PassItForwardLC/).
To read current or past archives: click on MESSAGES on the left column on the group web site.
To unsubscribe: From any page on the group, click the Edit Membership link at the top of the page. Then Click the Leave Group link at the bottom right of the page, and Confirm on the next page. You can also send an email to: PassItForwardLC-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com
PassItForwardLC NETIQUETTE
Netiquette is the etiquette of the Internet. Remember that the written communications of the Internet cannot convey meanings by voice inflection or body language, and it's easy to be misinterpreted. These guidelines have been developed to keep our discussions focused and purposeful, our messages manageable in size, and our communications civilized.
1) KEEP IT FREE, LEGAL & FAMILY-FRIENDLY. This means no pornography, alcohol, tobacco, drugs of any type. Also, no firearms or other weapons allowed. If you receive two warnings, there will not be a third; you will be either suspended or banned completely – depending on the situation. This is one of our main rules and we ask that you please abide by it. Also, “no” advertising for your yard sale please because this involves money; the mentioning of money is not allowed in our group.
2) Sending Messages to members: Please DO NOT send a “Thank You” message, or any other message, to the entire group, but instead, send your message directly to the individual you received the item from! If you have something you wish to share with all members, please join our Cafe Group (click on the Cafe Link on Home Page).
3) About Wanted or Needed Postings: Please DO NOT post the same WANTED message more than once a month - unless you get permission from the group owners to post more than once.
4) Over-Posting: Please DO NOT post more than 5 or 6 items at a time, this tends to “spam” our members with emails and most members do not wish to see an abundance of unnecessary postings in their mail box. Try instead, to combine some of the items you are giving away into “groups of items.”
4) Not Allowed: Please, NO Politics or Religious postings (not even around religious holidays, like Christmas or Easter!). No, we are not non-religious or heartless, but we have a Café Group for you to post messages that, although religious, you may feel is related to our concept. NO Spam or Mention of Money, or Money Exchange. NO Rudeness or Personal Attacks – especially at Group Owners or Moderators. We are working on a volunteer basis to provide you with a recycling resource and we are doing this in between our daily lives. We wish to serve you and help you, but you must realize that no group can run smoothly without management. So please remember that we are only doing our jobs when we write to you to remind you of something, or post Administration Notices to keep you informed. We do have a "3-Strike Rule" for those members that tend to ruin it for the rest.
5) Area of Town Important: Please state the “Area of Town” (give general location) not only in the body of your e-mail but especially on the Subject Line next to the item/s you are offering.
Example: Subject Line: OFFER Couch (Hwy 70 & Main St.).
6) Animals, Pets, & All God's Creatures:
CAN WE USE PassItForwardLC TO FIND NEW HOMES FOR ANIMALS OR PETS?
Yes, but we have a process that you must follow in order to post your animal or pet, or to even ask for one. The process is very simple for those that are willing to take the time:
a) You must first read our Pet Rules Blog (Link on Home Page)
b) Secondly, contact the Pet Moderator with your filled out form at ziababedee@yahoo.com
(Note: The Pet Moderator will do your posting for you after you have filled out the short form.)
c) The Pet Moderator will forward all responses/replies to you for consideration and once you choose someone you must promise to do a 3-6 month follow-up on the animal or pet. Also, we would like to have you send us the email address, name and address, of the person adopting your animal or pet.
Please remember that postings concerning pets for breeding purposes are not allowed. Those who do not abide by our rules above will face possible suspension or permanent removal.

Also posted in the File Section of Home Page is the Animal & Pet Organizations or Resources document, which may be very informative to those seeking alternative assistance with your pet or animals.
Last, but not least, we ask that you consider spaying or neutering your dogs and cats. Currently, there are over 6 million dogs and cats euthanized each year in this country alone. Please do your part to help this problem if you can!

*Addendum to Pet Policies 1: If you lost a dog or found one, you can write to us and we will post the message about the animal to our group members for you. But it must go through the Pet Moderator and/or owners as members are not allowed to post any message pertaining to animals.*Addendum to Pet Policies 2: The Pet Moderator/owners will be working in conjunction with the Humane Society of Southern New Mexico to inform our members of dogs and cats needing re-homing or foster homes. If you are interested in any of these animals being posted please contact the Pet Moderator or Reply to the Posting and we'll get it. You must, however, follow the same rules that are already established in our Pet Rules Blog/Guidelines. (Please See Pet Rules - Link on Home Page.)
7) Complaints: Please Respond ONLY to the person Posting and NOT to the entire membership. Those who Post Complaints will be automatically suspended for 30 days. If you have a complaint please write to the owners or moderators at: http://www.PassItForwardLC@yahoogroups.com
8.) PICK UP. Arrangements are up to you. It is advised to WAIT until you get a few responses from members because some members do work and do not get to see their email until they arrive home. Of course you can pick whomever you like but please remember to give the others who are not glued to their computers all day a chance too! We DO NOT allow our members to post a message stating that "it's on the porch, whoever gets here first gets it." Please do not do this, we suggest that you wait until you get replies from members first and then pick someone. If you wish to split a group of items between a few members that is okay too.
9) YOUR SAFETY. Be aware! It is up to each individual member when arranging for pickup of the item being given away to be aware of the potential risk of having "a stranger" come to your home to pick something up. The safest way to protect yourself is to leave the item in the front of your home somewhere visible only to the member picking it up. PassItForwardLC & the ReUseIt Network cannot be held liable for poor judgment of members so please be cautious.You may want to arrange to meet in a public place or leave the item on the front porch without mentioning whether or not you will be home at the time of pickup.
10) A BRIEF NOTE ON ETIQUETTE: "Be nice please." We are all volunteers and we've got a great little community here so when you arrange to pick up an item from another PassItForwardLC member it is basic good manners to accommodate them as much as possible in terms of scheduling, and then be punctual; after all, they are giving you something free and asking nothing in return except that you will show up when you say you will. Also, unless the offerer tells you otherwise, assume that they would like you to come to pick up your item/s immediately. (We ask that you pick up within no more than 2-3 days unless arrangements have been made with the offerer.).
TIPS TO MANAGE THE NEW EMAILS YOU WILL BE RECEIVING
Tip #1: Create a separate email folder and have your PassItForwardLC emails automatically go into that folder.
Tip #2: Set your message delivery to "DAILY DIGEST" OR "SPECIAL NOTICES" (which means you will read your email online at the group page). Realize that you can set your personal preferences on the main page (under "Edit My Membership" at the top of the page).
